Do They Work?

Shampoos and Conditioners have been around for many years and
over these years, research in the personal care world has dictated what performs the best.
Shampoos and Conditioners do not carry a similar chemistry and therefore are not alike.
Shampoos are for cleansing. Conditioners are for conditioning.
Conditioners are in a class of cationic surfactants. These type of products have a basic
positively charged compound. This, along with the key component of a functional group
gives the product its characteristic, such as a rich manageable satin look and feel to the
hair. This basic chemistry in combination to the chemistry and physiology of the hair
produces the desired end result.
The cleaning agents in Shampoos are designed to cleanse and remove build up and other
non-essential residues. The basic chemistry of Shampoos is in a class of anionic
surfactants. These are generally negatively charged compounds that allow for the different
degrees of cleansing. They are designed, not to interface and adhere to the hair shaft.
They perform as cleansers of the hair shaft and are washed away.
Products that contain both are known in the personal care industry as two-in-one shampoos.
The goal with these products is to provide cleansing and maintain the conditioning affect
of a "Conditioner". These products by virtue of the chemical compositions are
partially neutralized by each other and at best, perform adequately.
It is best to adhere to a regimen of cleansing and conditioning on an individual basis.
This allows for each product to produce its fullest potential as a cleansing or
conditioning agent. If two in one products were good for the consumer and your pet, then
we would see more of them on the market. Research and market studies have shown the
opposite.
